Well, we are approaching the end of another school year and another graduating class. We have students that we have worked with who plan on attending a 2 or 4 year college. Not having 20%+ of them not showing up at college this fall is a huge disappointment. At McKenzie we have a problem with summer melt since we have many first-generation and poor students. I am not happy with the melt, what can we do in ASPIRE to “chill” the melt? Read the following article.
What are your thoughts on what we can do from now through the summer to reduce the summer melt? At McKenzie all of the ASPIRE Mentors are volunteers so we are not employees who are off for the summer. We volunteered from September through May so I suspect we can volunteer during the summer to support our college bound students. What are some your suggestions for reducing summer melt?
Please share what you are doing, what you might do or what you suggest doing.
