Here is a thoughtful essay by Robert Sternberg who is well known in psychology. He moved out of being a professor to higher education administration and just recently became president at the University of Wyoming.
I really like his thesis addressing the mission of a land grant university. I also like his emphasis on the “value added” aspect of a college education. I suspect for many of us college and graduate school had a profound impact upon us.
As we mentor students we need to remember that a good college education changes us for the better. What are your thoughts?
